"Puzzling School's Rainy Day Policy"

Jan 22, 2024 - 9:34amSummary: It's raining heavily right now, and from what I can tell, it's rained up to two inches since last night based on my gallon bucket outside. Surprisingly, the school across the street seems to have released its students, and many kids are coming out despite it just being rain. I'm puzzled as to why they are sent home for rain when they are usually inside classrooms, protected from the weather. I'm amused by this situation especially since the school is quite new and unlikely to be flooding.

Transcript: Yo, this is wild. It's raining right now, and it's raining pretty hard. It's probably rained about an inch and a half since last night, is what I can tell, maybe two inches since last night, given my gallon bucket that's sitting outside. But I think school just got released. I live across the street from a school, and all of the kids, or a lot of kids, just came walking straight out of the school. Um, it's just raining. Like, why are you, like, what? I don't know why you need to go home. It's just rain. Like, you're in a classroom. What? Unless the school itself is flooding, but it's like a brand new school. I feel like it's fine. But yeah, just kind of like a funny little observation, I guess.

I went bouldering at Mira Mesa yesterday but faced an unexpected crowd due to school dismissal, making it difficult to park near my house for 20 minutes. Although I found the climbing only mediocre, feeling not as strong as usual, the climbs at Mira Mesa are harder compared to Mission Valley, which is beneficial for practice. Today, which is Tuesday, I'm planning to climb with Kyle, and we'll decide what to do next from there. Today's climbing session with Kyle is still tentative, but I'm looking forward to it as part of my routine.

I went surfing despite the high tide not being ideal, and there were around five of us in the water. One surfer amusingly brought a shortboard, which seemed unsuitable for the conditions. I realized even my own board wasn't long enough for the waves we encountered. Despite the less-than-perfect conditions, with swampy surf, I still managed to catch a few good waves.

This morning, after sleeping in, I enjoyed a slow start, making eggs with shallots and riding my bike to Mnemonic for a unique and fantastic espresso. I spent around two hours at Mnemonic writing and thinking, followed by a bike ride to Tacos El Gordo before returning home. Back home, I experimented with purified water for coffee brewing and general health reasons, purchasing three gallons from OB Water to see if it makes a difference. I'm ending my day with plans to read "Positioning" and acknowledging that my to-do list will likely extend into the weekend.

Today marked another fantastic surf session, this time during a sunset class. It was my third consecutive day surfing, but this session was a bit shorter, lasting around an hour and twenty minutes. I exhausted myself in the initial stages, primarily because the waves were consistent, not necessarily larger than before but incredibly steady. Despite occasional breaks, the session was intense—paddle, wave, paddle, wave, with a bit more wind adding to a progressively choppier sea over these days. I caught an insanely memorable wave, one I barely managed to ride, leading to an exhilarating 200-meter journey down its face on a longboard. Although I misjudged my speed towards the end, it was still the highlight of my day. Reflecting on my surfing approach, I realized I've been overly bold, almost as if I wasn't using a leash, which is something I'll adjust moving forward. Meanwhile, outside of surfing, there was a peculiar incident on the road involving another driver and police blocking the path ahead, but I managed to avoid any trouble. With my body feeling the toll of consecutive surfing days, I'm looking forward to a bit of rest and have plans to visit the Monk with friends. Additionally, I need to sort out whether Ryan can pick up some food for Moose or if I'll need to handle it. All in all, today was about balancing my passion for surfing with daily responsibilities and the need for rest, especially as the earlier sunsets are starting to impact my work schedule.

A quaint local bakery or café with outdoor seating is captured on a cloudy day. The establishment has a blue storefront with a large clear window, through which the bright interior, showcasing baked goods on shelves, is visible. Above the window is a sign with stylized text, partially legible, based on the unconventional font, reminiscent of an artisanal or trendy brand. The outdoor seating consists of wooden benches and tables that appear somewhat wet, indicating a recent rain or drizzle. The pavement below reflects the benches, adding to the sense of recent rain. Nearby, there's a sign with contact details and the word 'Takeaway'. The scene is devoid of people, lending a tranquil atmosphere to the locale.

Three people are standing in a car park near the ocean during what appears to be late afternoon, given the angle and warmth of the sunlight. The person in the foreground is wearing a black wetsuit with a hoodie and gloves, grinning widely at the camera, making a shaka sign with one hand. Another individual is partially visible behind them, sporting a wetsuit with the hood up, and giving a thumbs-up. The third person is facing away from the camera, half-dressed in a wetsuit, which is pulled down to the waist, revealing their bare back. There are two cars with open trunks in the background, one of which seems to be used for storing their gear. It looks like they have been participating in some water-related activity, possibly surfing, given their attire.
