"Biking, Productive Writing, and Flow State: A Day with Dave and Jordan"

Mar 5, 2024 - 6:23pmSummary: I had a productive call with Dave and discussed some writing tasks. I did some writing and have an open day tomorrow. I plan to hang out with Jordan, complete some tasks, and enjoy the day. I also biked to a nearby park and spent some time on a slack line, feeling a big flow state.

Transcript: I had a really productive call with Dave earlier today. That was really nice. A lot of questions came up, and hopefully I'll have some writing to do tomorrow on those. I did a bit of writing today, and that was good. And I guess I have an open day tomorrow, which is exciting. And I think just going to try to hit it early in the morning, go hang out with Jordan, and then come back and do whatever. I mean, I still have my couple tasks for tonight. And yeah, I think that's it. And I just went, biked to the nearby park, and set up a slack line and played around for an hour. It was like big flow state, which was cool. I did Alec Flo, which was amazing. And then biked home. So, pretty stoked. Thank you.

This morning started off late due to a restless night dreaming about the Vision Pro, but it turned out wonderfully. I played disc golf with my friend Ryan and managed to get some writing done, which felt awesome. Later, Keith joined us for more disc golf, and we also spent some time slacklining. I biked to and from the disc golf course, adding a pleasant touch to the day. For lunch, I tried a new place called Chris Ono Grinds and had their volcano chicken, which unfortunately didn't meet my expectations due to its excessive sweetness. Despite that, the day was filled with simple joys like spending quality time with friends without any drama or expectations, just enjoying each other's company. As for the rest of my plans, I'm contemplating a trip to Culp Valley but also recognize the need to focus on completing tasks and making food for myself. Though I want to balance leisure and productivity, I'm aiming for a more significant focus to achieve meaningful progress. In essence, today reinforced the importance of connecting with friends and finding balance in life's activities.

Today was genuinely good. I enjoyed a brief outing, had a catching-up call with Katie, and worked on getting an app ready for Darren, which I'm hopeful he'll find useful. It's sparked a desire in me to develop a more robust infrastructure, something I see as entirely feasible. Planning for tomorrow, I want to integrate a design from Jordan into my work and, if possible, continue enhancing the app for Darren, focusing on stronger infrastructure and deploying it to a stable, cost-effective, or free hosting service, potentially something like serverless Postgres. Dinner was light, just almonds and some couscous, not quite a meal. After a productive day, I'm feeling pretty exhausted and foresee just watching a YouTube video before bed. I'm looking forward to driving up for coffee tomorrow morning, though I need to check my car's charge for the trip to Encinitas and also plan to do some grocery shopping. I aim to start the day early, enjoy an espresso, buy some beans, perhaps a pastry, and then see where the day takes me. I'm debating between taking my laptop and opting to journal instead, leaning towards the latter to give myself a chance to reflect and process my thoughts. So, that's the roundup of today and the look-ahead for tomorrow.

The call with Dave was fantastic, offering a chance to catch up and discuss numerous ideas and possibilities. The overlap in their thinking was clear, and there was a need to condense these thoughts into something more tangible. Much of this is being documented on paper, as it seems easier to process than keeping it all in their head. The speaker expresses gratitude and enjoyment from having such conversations.

The evening was filled with meaningful conversations, vulnerability, and appreciation for the company. I also visited Nick to help with their business spreadsheets, exploring potential additional income. Tomorrow's plans include a bike ride to Mnemonic to spend time writing and reflecting on recent discussions, fueled by energy and an espresso.

The speaker did not complete their weekly review, which usually provides clarity and insights for the upcoming week. Despite this, they have many projects, personal life commitments, and community efforts to attend to, not to mention taxes. They plan to set week intentions using voice instead of writing, including the exploration of websites for the Diagram Website Explorers Club and developing a Canvas element-based editor for Daily Jam. The technical aspects of this project involve real-time data updates, efficient pixel manipulation, and secure user authentication through tokenization. A function is set to run every five seconds to update the canvas with the latest pixel data, ensuring all viewers see a consistent image while minimizing performance impacts. Other tasks include preparing tax paperwork, organizing Boulder events for systems and AI, and sketching ideas for a project called "co-net." The intention is to spend more time outdoors in the nice weather and to schedule the next "Site Craft Hang," while thinking about potential content for the "Explorers Club" website. Overall, it's a productive Monday morning with good weather contributing to a positive start to the week.

"Unlocking the Potential of Asynchronous Voice Note Conversations"

A shared 'brain' is being discussed as a platform for asynchronous voice note conversations where metadata could enhance understanding and visualization of conversational threads. The speaker suggests a focus on DEMO rather than DEC as a fork in the road, believing it better suits the work they've been doing with building prototypes. A group experiment is proposed with four members to delve into how these voice notes can overlap and interconnect, with the idea of marking chapters within responses to clarify dialogue. The concept also touches on the nuances of information retrieval, preferring vector databases over direct text searches, hinting at a similarity to the speaker's initial voice note exchanges with Savannah after meeting on a dating app. Voice communication offers significant advantages as a medium, and there's an idea presented here that its power should extend beyond just live conversations. Current messaging apps are filled with voice notes that are often difficult to search, filter, or respond to, though iMessage now has transcripts, which are generally reliable and useful once you've listened to the original voice note. The ability to refer back to transcribed voice notes can aid in crafting thoughtful responses and engaging in more meaningful discussions. The sender of the message suggests that by embracing this approach to communication, we could enhance our conversations and is curious to see how it will develop.
