"Empowerment and Inspiration: Conversations with Shahrouz"

Jan 22, 2024 - 9:10pmSummary: The conversation with Shahrouz left the speaker feeling supported and appreciative, especially with the encouragement received about their capabilities. Shahrouz advised considering a trip to San Francisco to network and potentially find a co-founder, while also suggesting the speaker look into Nicholas Feltron's work for dashboard design inspiration. Emphasis was placed on the critical nature of branding and identity for the project, along with the desire for a hand-built rather than machine-made feel, accepting imperfections for the eventual quality result. The speaker was also motivated to work on building an app with the right feedback loops and entertained the thought of raising funds based on the app's development, finding all the advice very helpful.

Transcript: Uh, looking over some of my notes from my conversation with Shahrouz today, um, man, I'm really, really grateful that we had that conversation. Um, it just made me think a bit differently and, uh, feel, felt really supported, so I, I really appreciate, um, Shahrouz for that and encouraging and kind of being like, you're, you're smart and you know what you're doing. Um, it felt really good. Um, some of the things that, um, might be worthwhile doing is like to try and maybe go up to SF and try to engage in the community and just meet people. Um, maybe trying to find a co-founder, maybe, maybe not. Um, and he also mentioned, well, uh, he mentioned a lot of things that were really helpful. Um, one was to look at Nicholas Feltron's work and what he did for, that's kind of like, uh, what the dashboard view should be in some way, I think, um, for me. Um, so I'll look at that more and one of the other big things was branding and identity and that being probably quite critical and I agree, I really, really agree and maybe it makes me think of like, what do I want that brand identity to be as well? Um, you know, I don't have to develop that myself. Um, but having some intuition of what that looks like, I think would be, uh, would be nice. Certainly I'd like it to feel, you know, it's like hand-built, it's not like machine-made. This is hand-built and you're going to build it by hand and it's not going to be perfect. Um, there's going to be some creaky edges and things falling off and things off level, but it'll look really good at the end of the day. That's, that's kind of what I'm feeling there. Um, just quickly looking over. Yeah, I mean, I think for the, for the most part, like just encouraging to try to build an app or build the right loops and potentially raise based on that and, um, yeah, really, really, really helpful. All of this stuff.

"Generating Effective Pitch Strategies with Jamie"

I had a productive call with Jamie, during which we discussed my ideas and strategies for effectively pitching them. Jamie gave me tips on improving user experience and the importance of showing a polished concept over a rudimentary but functional prototype. We touched on the balance between immediate buildable aspects and long-term vision, emphasizing the importance of clarity in communicating how short-term plans align with the long-term future. I am grateful for Jamie's encouragement and advice, and I'm looking forward to possibly working with friends like Austin to further explore and demonstrate the potential of my ideas.

I had a beneficial conversation with John, who helped me work through my thoughts and appreciated his support in allowing me to talk things out. We discussed building a simple intention website that John sketched, considering the addition of GPS functionality due to its importance for intention-based actions, and the possibility of an AI assisting with small tasks based on one's intentions. Despite my aversion to login pages, John made me realize it's acceptable to ask for passwords on a website, and that a solution to eliminate logins can be addressed later. This talk has energized me for the week, and I'm excited about working on this intention website project, hopeful about committing to it longer term, and grateful for the sense of direction it provides.

"Recognizing the Need for Help: A Journey to Overcome Isolation"

The speaker recognizes their tendency to isolate themselves and sees the benefit of reaching out to others for help, as recent calls with Shahrouz and Raphael have been productive. They acknowledge the need to ask for help when stuck and set an intention to improve in this area. They also believe a computer could assist by recognizing their frustration and suggesting actions like meditation or consulting a domain expert like Raphael, potentially advancing their progress.

"Crafting a Powerful AI Grant Application"

I'm making good progress on the AI grant application, with both the longer description and one-sentence summary feeling satisfactorily crafted. Despite some reservations, the video I've made is likely sufficient, and with most steps completed, I'm now moving onto the demo, aiming to showcase everything in a concise three-minute presentation. This will highlight one personal frame through which to view data, particularly emphasizing social connections and convenience in planning. My ultimate goal is to demonstrate the simplicity of asking a question to retrieve information and to focus on the two key APIs, store and query, to power the application. Focus around these two queries, as with them, essentially any application can be constructed.

"AI for Friendship: Building Community and Creativity"

AI for Friendship is gaining interest, fueling a creative desire to establish an environment akin to an art studio filled with engaging items. Dave proposed a concept, "14 days of 13 bad posts," to clear out unproductive thoughts, highlighting the importance of community building as seen in Seth Godin's work and the importance of presentation. The tool in question has the potential to be profitable, with the expectation that successful users will share their strategies, thereby encouraging more effective use by others. An idea for a social game revolves around the concept of mutual discovery between participants, with the flexibility for users to engage with the system simply or contribute to its development.
