"A Productive Day: A Blend of Work, Socializing, and Personal Exploration"

Mar 22, 2024 - 8:20amSummary: Yesterday was a pretty good and productive day for me. In the morning, I was at work, really diving deep into what's possible with the backend, especially focusing on modal and non-real-time transcriptions—successfully managing to make them work. I'm considering extending that setup to my local machine to ensure it optimally selects the best backend for serving content. I also thought about exploring Olama for similar functionalities but realized I might need to handle streaming code specifically. There's a part of me thinking about delving into `whisper.cpp` because I believe streaming support is achievable without excessive effort, though it might require some C++ handling. Enhancing Python and node bindings, especially making GGML usable like a tensor library in Python, is another aspect I’m looking into. Aside from work, I managed to meditate for 15 minutes, skipped breakfast but enjoyed beans and rice for lunch, and had Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch and later for games, playing the crew, which was quite enjoyable. Claire brought dessert, and I made some pasta and chicken for dinner. My fascination with O1 or Open Interpreter continues, and I'm eager to explore more about it. For today, I'm considering going surfing if the situation allows, based on what I manage to accomplish in the morning and my energy levels through the day. I'm planning to start my day with meditation—trying it before my coffee—to see how that feels and take the day from there.

Comment: Mostly recalling yesterday and planning for today

Transcript: The, I had a lot of things happen yesterday. Yesterday was a good day. In the morning I got to work and yeah, it was just like a solid, solid working time. Kind of was just going through things and seeing what's possible with this backend. I mean, I think I probably just tinkered around mostly with modal trying to get things to work. I did get it to work. First I started on non real-time transcriptions is just like put file and get file out. And that works. I now want to basically like extend that environment to my local machine. Mostly because like it needs to pick the good backend for where it's like being served effectively. And we'll, we'll see how that goes. We'll see how that goes. And I don't know, maybe I should check out Olama and see if Olama has anything like this. There's just like these weird little edge cases that I'm like, nope, doesn't do enough. I have to write all of the code specifically streaming. So, so we'll see. Part of me also wants to go into whisper.cpp and, and start fucking around there. Um, but mainly because like, I do think I can get streaming support out of it without, um, going like super ridiculously hard on it. Um, I will probably have to read and write some C++, but that's life. Um, and figuring out better ways to make bindings for Python and node would be really sweet as well. Um, maybe even abstracting, um, GGML up to the point where it can be used like numpy or something like that in Python itself. Um, so it can be used as a, a tensor library outside of the C++ environment, but use it as, as a backend. Um, that would be really cool to have in node. Um, basically, basically the runtime of GGML would be great. I don't know what runtime support GGML. This is probably some, something to, uh, to figure out actually like what I'm describing is GGML as a runtime. Um, but anyway, yesterday, um, I did all that stuff and I also, oh man. Um, that was the morning. I, I spent four hours just like going into it in the morning, uh, pretty much immediately. I did meditate yesterday for 15 minutes. I don't know if I put that in or not. Um, I had beans and rice for lunch. I did not have breakfast yesterday and I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch. And I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch. And I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch. And I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch. And I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch. And I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for lunch. And I had, um, Kyle, Claire, Kyle's dad, and Miri over for, uh, games. And we played some games together, played the crew. That was really nice. Claire brought over dessert, which is fantastic. Um, I made some pasta and chicken for dinner. Um, that was something that I just ate and Claire had a bite or two, but I just ate that. Um, yeah. And all of that was really solid. Also the, all the stuff going on with O1 or Open Interpreter. Is very fascinating. And I'm very curious to just like, keep, um, pulling on some of those threads if possible. Um, so we'll kind of see how that goes. Um, I'd love to get a surf in today if it makes sense. Um, but we'll kind of see as the day goes, that might be kind of an evening thing. Um, depending on how much I get done in the morning and how, uh, how much energy I'd continue to have. Um, depending on how much I get done in the morning and how, uh, how much energy I'd continue to have. Throughout the day. Um, yeah, I think I'm going to make my cup of coffee and probably get into it more or less. I probably am going to, I guess I'll meditate first and see what that's like to have meditation before coffee and then go from there.

Today was an incredibly energetic and successful day for me. I maintained high energy levels throughout, even though I experienced a slight dip in the afternoon. The highlight was bringing the Mac mini network to life, which now runs a real machine learning model on commodity hardware capable of serving a production-grade API. This milestone makes me extremely excited and marks a significant achievement in the stability and capability of our API. Additionally, I cooked a delicious spinach, garlic, and butter pasta for lunch, with plenty left over for future meals. I also have enough chicken and couscous for another meal, ensuring a tasty week ahead. In the evening, I enjoyed outdoor activities, including riding my bike and slacklining with my friend Ryan in the park. Following this, I had a productive call with Dave and concluded my day with a simple dinner. As the day comes to an end, I plan to meditate and sort out my climbing gear, though I might skip showering since I'll be surfing tomorrow. A bit of kitchen cleanup is also on my to-do list, but overall, I feel immensely satisfied with how the day unfolded. Now, it's time to wind down, embrace the feeling of tiredness, and allow myself to take a much-deserved break.

Productive Day and Tomorrow's Plans

Today was genuinely good. I enjoyed a brief outing, had a catching-up call with Katie, and worked on getting an app ready for Darren, which I'm hopeful he'll find useful. It's sparked a desire in me to develop a more robust infrastructure, something I see as entirely feasible. Planning for tomorrow, I want to integrate a design from Jordan into my work and, if possible, continue enhancing the app for Darren, focusing on stronger infrastructure and deploying it to a stable, cost-effective, or free hosting service, potentially something like serverless Postgres. Dinner was light, just almonds and some couscous, not quite a meal. After a productive day, I'm feeling pretty exhausted and foresee just watching a YouTube video before bed. I'm looking forward to driving up for coffee tomorrow morning, though I need to check my car's charge for the trip to Encinitas and also plan to do some grocery shopping. I aim to start the day early, enjoy an espresso, buy some beans, perhaps a pastry, and then see where the day takes me. I'm debating between taking my laptop and opting to journal instead, leaning towards the latter to give myself a chance to reflect and process my thoughts. So, that's the roundup of today and the look-ahead for tomorrow.

"Unlocking the Potential of Asynchronous Voice Note Conversations"

jon.burrito

81.11% similar

A shared 'brain' is being discussed as a platform for asynchronous voice note conversations where metadata could enhance understanding and visualization of conversational threads. The speaker suggests a focus on DEMO rather than DEC as a fork in the road, believing it better suits the work they've been doing with building prototypes. A group experiment is proposed with four members to delve into how these voice notes can overlap and interconnect, with the idea of marking chapters within responses to clarify dialogue. The concept also touches on the nuances of information retrieval, preferring vector databases over direct text searches, hinting at a similarity to the speaker's initial voice note exchanges with Savannah after meeting on a dating app. Voice communication offers significant advantages as a medium, and there's an idea presented here that its power should extend beyond just live conversations. Current messaging apps are filled with voice notes that are often difficult to search, filter, or respond to, though iMessage now has transcripts, which are generally reliable and useful once you've listened to the original voice note. The ability to refer back to transcribed voice notes can aid in crafting thoughtful responses and engaging in more meaningful discussions. The sender of the message suggests that by embracing this approach to communication, we could enhance our conversations and is curious to see how it will develop.

The speaker is reflecting on their experience with making audio burrito posts, noting that it often requires multiple attempts to get into the correct mindset—similar to drafting written posts. They're grappling with the challenge of monologuing without a clear understanding of the audience, as they are aware that at least John and CJ will hear it, but uncertainty about the wider audience affects their ability to communicate effectively. This creates a 'contextual membrane shakiness' as the speaker finds the lack of audience boundaries difficult to navigate, which they recognize may vary among different people. The speaker concludes by deciding to end the current note and start a new one.
