Transcript: God, so many things just happened today. Went climbing with Gabby and Chaz. Carolyn was there, her daughter, and Ollie, and I forget this guy's name. This girl Katie and her partner, they had a dog, I forgot the dog's name, I forgot her partner's name, but whatever, a lot of fucking people this week. It was really nice climbing, but, and we also went to dinner, Ollie, Chaz, Gabby, and I was really wonderful. And I just dropped Ollie off at the airport. I'm driving back to Gavin's place now, and conversation with Ollie was really good. And I think basically, like, in summary, the best thing to do with technology is to make a positive impact with it, instead of being doom and gloom about it. Because, like, as a population, we have to do better. And we can make change. And we shouldn't just yell at the thing, but use the thing to make our lives better. That is what it is to be human. And we can be doom and gloom about it if we want. But doom and gloom gets us nowhere, and leads us to doom. So we might as well try to make the future the best we possibly can. Obviously, this is hard. Takes a lot of thought, a lot of effort, and things are nuanced. So, that's life. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. I also generally just said that I think I'm a little too late to AI, to some degree. Which is true and not true. But, Ollie is in the perfect time. Which I think largely is true. He thinks he is in the worst time. But he is sensitive to a whole class of problems that I don't get to be sensitive to. Which is why I think that he is in the best time. Because I am detached from those problems. So. Yeah. In summary, don't be doom and gloom. Make the best of it. The technology can do amazing things. There's a lot of forces that will drag the technology down. But there's also a lot of forces that can make it really fucking positive. So. Just try to do the best you can to be on the positive side. And be aware. That's it. You just gotta be aware. Keep being aware.

The speaker emphasizes their unique strategy regarding AI, recognizing the existing interest in such pervasive technology and its demonstrated potential. They argue that success in this field isn't solely about attractive designs but also about hiring the best engineering talent to make technological advancements possible. Acknowledging their own limitations, the speaker notes the importance of fundamental technology developed by their friends and the need for substantial technological work, implying that simple technology orchestration is not enough for sustained success. Despite the rambling nature of their thoughts, the speaker seems to aim for a blend of business and consumer offerings, driven by core technological innovation and top engineering expertise.
While driving to Irvine, someone called our car a "toaster on wheels" and accused us of techno-fascism. The encounter was surprisingly pleasant; the man wasn't angry, just sharing his opinion, and we all ended up smiling. Despite not fully agreeing with him, I recognize that our world is far from perfect and can feel dystopian, especially within my field of work. However, I believe it's crucial to avoid authoritarianism and censorship by technology companies, and to strive for a more distributed platform for governance, in the spirit of what the Internet originally was.
The user provided a review of the past weekend, discussing resonating with people about personal AI, privacy and security, and the idea of creating personal media artifacts. They found resonance with Chelsea, Colin, Hamad, Lauren, and Gene, particularly in the context of explaining the concept of personal AI using examples like food and sharing photos. The conversation also touched on the storytelling potential of combining voice notes, photos, and videos into a movie-like experience. Additionally, the importance of privacy and the multi-modality of personal media artifacts were highlighted, especially in the context of AR and VR. The user also emphasized their passion for privacy and bringing data into the conversation. The text is too long to be summarized.
The speaker recognizes their tendency to isolate themselves and sees the benefit of reaching out to others for help, as recent calls with Shahrouz and Raphael have been productive. They acknowledge the need to ask for help when stuck and set an intention to improve in this area. They also believe a computer could assist by recognizing their frustration and suggesting actions like meditation or consulting a domain expert like Raphael, potentially advancing their progress.
The writer expresses enthusiasm for the potential of recent technological advancements, specifically with regard to enhancing individual engagement and benefit rather than corporate application. They believe in the potential of mobile devices to run large language models, ultimately changing how individuals interact with computers and information. They draw parallels between early computing and the current focus on corporate-oriented technology, expressing a preference for the democratization of such capabilities. The writer feels optimistic about the direction of technology and its potential for widespread value, despite current perceptions.

The speaker conveys their frustration with a difficult fundraising experience, describing a particularly unsatisfactory video call with a fund representative. The caller was in a bad mood, hadn't reviewed the provided materials, and hesitated to engage with the product's features. This led to a tense exchange where the speaker challenged the representative's commitment to valuing founders versus purely focusing on financial metrics. Feeling disillusioned, the speaker is left with a distaste for these disengaged "NPCs" and remains focused on their vision of fostering creative and engaging spaces.

I fulfilled my 2024 goal of deepening relationships tonight. I rode my bike looking for puddles to splash in after the rain, but found none. Instead, I had a rewarding conversation with Claire and Sam at Ichiban. This interaction was very satisfying.
